Dear Congregational Family,

1. YES! Our world is filled with “no’s” and impossibilities, but in II Corinthians 1:20, God declares, “For as many as are the promises of God, in Him [Christ] they are yes; therefore, also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” I pray that you will seek out and experience the promises of God in Christ this year!

2. Does it make a difference? Cohabitation vs. Marriage. We know that it makes a world of difference as God promises to bless marriage, but there are no promises of blessing from God attached to cohabitation. The other day, as I was listening to WORD FM, (101.5 FM) I heard a startling statistic. They were discussing “wealth building” and it was reported that couples who simply live together are much, much, poorer. On average they have $17,000 saved up together whereas married couples have a combined net worth of $68,000 between the ages of 25 and 34.

It was found in the research that the main reason for this was because unmarried partners do not save and invest with a hope of a future together. The conclusion was, if you want to build wealth and look forward to the future, get MARRIED rather than just live together.

And yet a growing number of Americans are choosing to cohabitate rather than to marry. In the past 30 years, the number of married adults has declined from 60% to under 50%, while at the same time cohabitation rose 59%. (Interesting, especially in view of our Sunday School discussion last week from I Thessalonians.
