Dear Congregational Family,

1. Epiphany: Today is the 12th day of Christmas, officially ending the Christmas Season. (Sing “The 12 days of Christmas” one last time today!) Tomorrow is Epiphany and the beginning of the Epiphany Season of the church. “Epiphany” means “to see clearly, to make known, or to make manifest.”
Historically, Epiphany was a major festival of the church as it was the season in which the church celebrated three occurrences:
a. The coming of the Magi to see the Christ-child;
b. The baptism of Jesus at the beginning of His ministry, and
c. The first miracle of Jesus – the turning of the water into wine at the wedding in Cana.
In all three of these events there is an “epiphany” in which we “see more clearly” that Jesus
is the Divine Son of God who came to be the Savior of the world. May this year, be an
“Epiphany Year” for all of us in seeing Jesus more clearly!

2. Congregational Annual Meeting: On Jan. 17th we will be having our meeting after both worship services. The purpose of the meeting is for voting on the ballot of nominations for Church Council positions.

3. Prayer: Please be in prayer for our nation during these trying political times of the next two weeks. Regardless of the rumbling, remember that the Lord is in control of all, and we pray that His sovereign hand would rule over our land.

4. Bible Reading 2021: We are reading through the Bible again in 2021 as a congregation. This year we will be reading through in a chronological order (rather than in the order of the books as they appear in the Bible). This will not only be a fresh way to read the Bible, but it will also help us to put different books of the Bible together in the timeframe and context in which they were given. We will again be using the You Version Bible app. You will be able to sign up by emailing Don Roose at DonRoose@ruthfred.org. Bibles following this same plan are available at church as well for you to use if you want to read a paper copy. They are on the table by the elevator. God bless you as you read His Word!

5. City Mission Food: Thank you so much for the many bags of food that you brought last Sunday for the City Mission Food Pantry!

6. Sermon: Title: “Rise & Shine, Pittsburgh! Jesus is here!”
Text: Isaiah 60:1-6

God bless you this New Year as we continue,

“Growing Together in our Faith as the Family of God!”
