Dear Congregational Family,

1. Blessed Thanksgiving: Our Thanksgiving service will be this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. It is a joyful and festive service! Please plan to attend and worship the Lord and give thanks, as the Psalm declares, “O give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His lovingkindness is everlasting.” – Psalm 107:1

The Thanksgiving offerings will be given away in their entirety to City Mission and to Voice of the Martyrs (VOM). These ministries help meet the needs both of those around us locally and of Christians around the world who are suffering for their faith in Jesus.

2. Advent: This Sunday is the beginning of the Advent Season! “Advent” is from the Latin word “adventus” and means “come.” The Lutheran Church has always faithfully taught the Three Aspects of Advent.

We celebrate the First Coming of Christ in the Incarnation to be the Savior of the world.
We celebrate Christ’s coming into our heart and bringing personal salvation to our soul.
We look forward to and prepare for the Second Coming of Christ when He will come in glory to usher in the New Heavens and the New Earth of Paradise.

3. Family Advent Sunday School: Last Sunday, we held a Family Advent Sunday School to help our young families get ready to celebrate Advent and Christmas. The turnout was wonderful! Thank you to all those who worked so hard in putting this together! Additional pictures are posted on our Ruthfred Facebook page.

4. Annual Meeting: Last Sunday after both services our Fall Annual Meeting was held. During these sessions our Financial Budget for 2023 was presented to the congregation for a vote. The vote was unanimous after both services. Our congregation is so blessed by so many faithful and generous givers to the ministry!! Thank you for your participation in this essential aspect of the ministry at Ruthfred! God provides through His people! Thank you to Mark Riley for leading the meeting, and to Bill Ward (and the finance committee) for a very articulate presentation and for diligent work all year on this!

5. Altar Guild: Thank you to the Altar Guild for the beautiful Thanksgiving decorations which we have been enjoying the last two Sundays! We know that Advent and Christmas are busy times of serving our congregation with all the decorating, candles, paramount cloths, Holy Communion, Nativity scenes, wreaths, trees, etc.! This is also a great time to thank Brian for all the extras he does during the holiday season!

6. Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry: Thank you to all those who participated in this ministry and to Carol Ward for directing it! Yesterday, 136 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes were delivered to be shipped, which means that 136 children from around the world will have a gift to open at Christmas! Last year’s total was 111, so this was a significant increase. Thank you so very much!

7. Sunday Sermon: Title: “Be Ready. He Is Coming”
Text: Matthew 24:36-44

God bless you as we continue,

“Growing Together in our Faith as the Family of God.”
