Dear Congregational Family,

1. Family Fall Festival: On Saturday, Oct. 16th, we will be holding our annual Family Fall Festival at the Cox Farm from 1:00pm-7:00pm! There will be games, fabulous food, hayrides, pumpkins, and much more! Our worship team will also be there to lead a time of praise to the Lord. This is an excellent opportunity to invite your friends! Come and enjoy a wonderful time together!!

2. Marriage & Taxes: As Christians, should we be concerned about our government’s fiscal policies? Yes, actually we should be concerned and involved! Currently many Representatives have sounded the alarm that the proposed Federal Budget moving through Congress will greatly increase what is known as the “marriage penalty” in our tax system. In many ways, our tax structures and systems penalize and discourage people financially from getting married, instead encouraging them simply to live together in order to qualify for more financial benefits, etc.

Unfortunately, this is highly detrimental for families and for the stability of our society as a whole. More importantly, it is clearly against the Word of God. Yes, following God’s Word and living according to God’s Will does bring greater blessings than any governmental financial reward, but it would be helpful if our government would encourage marriage rather than penalize it.

Currently, the marriage rate in the United States has hit a new low. According to the Institute for Family Studies only 33 out of every 1,000 unmarried adults in 2019 got married. By contrast, it was at 86 per 1,000 in 1970. Granted, one can by no means assume that whoever is not married is therefore living with someone. It is no secret, however, that cohabitation has skyrocketed, and unfortunately our government has financially incentivized it.

According to the Bible, a government is to “reward good” and “punish evil.” Unfortunately, sometimes that gets turned around! Pray for the Lord to raise up godly men and women to lead our nation in ways that honor the Lord and bring blessings upon our citizens.
