Dear Congregational Family,

Thank you! You can imagine my surprise last Saturday evening when I returned to church and saw a large box on my desk. I opened it and discovered a beautiful handcrafted music box, that was filled (over 100!) with cards, letters and notes of encouragement to Jen and myself, from church members reflecting on shared times of friendship and spiritual growth from these past ten years of ministry together at Ruthfred. Thank you so much! You are a blessing to us, and we are humbled by your kind words. It is a privilege to be your pastor, and I want to continue growing and developing in my ability to better lead and serve our congregation.

Adult Sunday School: Last week, we continued with a discussion about our church, with a brief study of the early church in Acts 2, and then our time was entirely devoted to the sharing of ideas, desires, and dreams that members have for our congregation and expressly in regards to calling a second pastor. It was a very fruitful time!! It was requested that we continue this one more time this coming Sunday. All are encouraged to participate!

Men’s Dinner: Last call for RSVP’s for the Men’s Dinner! We have 50 men already registered!! Dr. Ron Good is our speaker and will be sharing about his faith, business practice, and mission trips that he has been a part of from the South Hills. If you would like to attend, please let Pete Huwe know today – phuwe@eastman.com or respond to this email.

Sermon text for this Sunday is Luke 15:11-32. The title is: “The Second Lost Son.”
Two excellent resource books on this include: “The Return of the Prodigal Son” by Henri Nouwen which looks at this chapter through the lens of Rembrandt’s painting; and also “The Prodigal God” by Tim Keller. In addition, all works by Middle Eastern scholar, Kenneth Bailey, are excellent sources.

God bless you as we continue,
“Growing Together in our Faith as the Family of God”
